Melbourne's food scene is so diverse and sophisticated that it's hard to find anything really new, but we believe this is a first: Timorese food on the menu. As part of its partnership with us, Caffe Strada in Ivanhoe has introduced a Timorese menu, and will be making a generous $3 donation for each dish sold.
Caffe Strada threw us a party on Friday night to launch the new dishes, which will be on the menu soon. On Friday night we sasate (satay) lamb, laketu ho nu'u (pumpkin with coconut milk), etu ho nu'u (coconut rice), berinjela midar-si'in (sweet and sour eggplant) amongst other things and they were sensational.
Our Timorese born board member Ana and her sister in law Maria were special cuisine advisers, making for some fun times in the kitchen with Irish Chef Paul.
A big thanks to the owners of Caffe Strada, Paul and Bernadette Brady, and their staff for supporting us with this unique and wonderful fundraiser.
If you are in that part of the world, please call in and try the Timorese dish out, and let the lovely folks behind the counter know how much you appreciate their support of our work.
