While today is normally the day associated with cupid taking aim, flowers and chocolates, February 14th is also International CHD Day. Whilst traditionally associated with congenital heart disease, we here at East Timor Hearts Fund as well as other organisations refer to International CHD day as being Childhood Heart Disease Awareness Day, in that way being able to encompass other acquired conditions such as rheumatic heart disease.
2014 is shaping up to be a big year for East Timor Hearts Fund, with patients Lucas scheduled for surgery next month at Monash Heart, and Agripino scheduled for surgery in Melbourne in April. Dr Noel Bayley and the volunteer medical team will also conduct two days of clinics with our partner Bairo Pite Clinic in Dili next week.
East Timor Hearts Fund supports direct, practical, medical aid, providing life-saving heart surgery in Australia for young people from East Timor. With no administrative overheads, and medical specialists and others who work for East Timor Hearts Fund donating their time and skills, all funds raised directly pay for surgical procedures, transport and travel costs for patients, and all donations are tax deductible.
So, this Valentine’s Day instead of spending money on flowers that will only last a few days, consider a donation to East Timor Hearts Fund that will instead give the gift of life!
