Day 3 in Dili
Another busy clinic, and thus far we've seen just under 100 patients...and we still have two days to go .
So far we've identified 14 patients in need of cardiac procedures, including a couple with immediately life-threatening valvular disease, whom we'll seek to get treated asap.
The others need surgery, but can be done over the next six months as our partner hospitals have capacity.
As always, we have seen lots of patients who have previously received treatment and are now doing fine. The team enjoyed seeing school teacher and mother of seven Rita again. After an unexpectedly long stay in Australia when her surgery had to be postponed, Rita had open heart repair of a badly damaged mitral valve at MonashHeart last August and is now doing well.
This round of clinics has been grueling, but enormously satisfying.
Thanks for your support.
