Week 5: Thirsty in Perth

Hi all,

After a weaker than expected week 4, I decided to get back up to speed for week 5, starting on Saturday with a 45 minute run around Yarra Bend Park. I felt good and enjoyed some time to relax with a podcast while getting fitter.

Sunday was cross training - rather than structured exercise we walked to Edinburgh Gardens and had a fish and chips picnic (carbing up, see?). I followed this by pruning the tree in my front yard.  Minor injuries sustained.

I travelled to Perth for work on Monday night for two days, and while I wasn’t planning on doing any exercise we got about an hour worth of walking in trying to find a bar that was open at 10PM in Perth CBD on a Monday night – with no success.

So decided to go running with my colleague – who insisted I not bring my phone – Tuesday afternoon, about 4km.  So no mid-exercise selfie; instead, a photo of us celebrating after a hard day of meetings.

I took a break Wednesday and followed up with some kettlebells (cross training) on Thursday afternoon.

Even short runs are a struggle but consistency is the key to building fitness.

Lessons learned this week:

  • Be ready to exercise at a time that works for you
  • Don’t expect an exciting night out on a Monday in the Perth CBD
  • Listening to a motivational podcast while exercising lets you do two things at once, plus you are learning something news while high on endorphins.  Podcasts I enjoy:
