My name is Bete Naben; I am a sports teacher and mother of three, from Timor-Leste (East Timor).
In November 2016 I was blessed to have heart surgery in Australia, to fix the "hole in the heart" I was born with. Before, I was too sick to work, play with my kids and enjoy sport.
Now I'm healthy and looking forward to coming to Australia for the Run Melbourne fun run. I want to inspire future patients, and raise awareness about East Timor Hearts Fund’s amazing work.
It will be a great challenge and achievement, because when I was so sick I had given up hope.
I never thought that I would ever be healthy again, let alone running five kilometres!
Please come and meet me at Run Melbourne on 30 July! And please donate, so that another patient like me may also have a second chance at life.
